The RR8 has an alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, a single Heartfield active humbucker, 22 frets and a fixed bridge with string-through-body design. It has a 24.75" (628.7 mm) scale length and a 12" (305 mm) neck radius.

The guitar appeared in Fender Frontline first in spring 1990 (there were no earlier issues) and last in autumn 1993, which seems to make it (and the RR9) the Heartfield guitar longest in production.
